Summer activities

In lake Lohonjärvi you can swim, fish, boat and paddle with SUP boards. We rent SUP boards cheaply. Bicycles and battery-powered outboard engines and are also available for rent. Frisbee golf can be played in the nearby forest. Ask the owner for the discs.

The nearby forests offer a great opportunity for picking berries and mushrooms during summer and autumn. The nearby nature trail allows you to enjoy nature and the beautiful scenery of Lake Lohonjärvi. Routes of various lengths are available, and an illuminated ski track is also nearby.

Winter activities

Ice fishing is popular at Lake Lohonjärvi. Many of our regular customers already know the best fishing spots. Just a few hundred meters from the villas there is an illuminated trail for cross-country skiers. It is possible to go ice skating on the ice of the lake if the weather allows. There is also a hockey rink at Ylämaa centre.

Dog sledding is possible by prior arrangement. You can try snowshoeing, it’s a great way to work out and explore the winter forest. Snowshoes can be rented from the owner. The villas have sliders and sledges for children. The nearest ski slope, Joutseno Myllymäki, is 60 km away. It is about an hour's drive from the villas.

Nature trail

The villas provide easy access to the Ylämaa's Stone and Nature Trail. The starting point of the route is only a few hundred meters from the villas. The length of the route is 9 km, straightening 5 km in a diverse natural environment. Trail goes on in the woods, on path bottoms and forest roads and the duckboards in Suursuo. Attractions and destinations along the route: duckboards in Suursuo, Saareskoski in Vilajoki (crossing along the bridge), wartime cannons near the school center, Multamäki shed and Jalokivikylä.

There is also Kati's nature trail near the villas. It winds through at beautiful lake landscapes on the shores of Lake Lohonjärvi.

Sights and museums

When visiting Ylämaa, there is a unique opportunity to get to know a rare gem, the Highland Spectrolite. Every year, the gem village hosts an international gem fair where exhibitors from around the world present and sell their stunning products.

With villa accommodation, it is possible to take part on the courses of Ylämaa Mystique. You can hone your own spectrolite jewelry with the help of a professional instructor. Ask about different options, order in advance. More information can be found from Ylämaa Mystique's website. You can get to know the Second World War defence line Salpalinja, in Ihaksela. Along Vaalimaantie (road 387 from Ylämaa towards Vaalimaa) is the old Joutsenkoski mill and power plant.
